DeLeon Cafe Weight Loss Coffee — Drink Our ‘Healthy Coffee’ Everyday

Good Morning Social Media Family!

Our product of the day is DeLeon Cafe Weight Loss Coffee.

weight-loss-cafe-with-box-9-25-16

Yes, yes and yes we have a Weight Loss Coffee. It contains Ganoderma which is a Reishi Mushroom known as ‘the mushroom of immortality’.

For over 4000 years Reishi mushrooms (Ganoderma Lucidum) have been`recognized by Chinese medical professionals as a valuable remedy.` Its Chinese name Lingzhi, means “spiritual potency”. Reishi mushrooms are`regarded by the Chinese as the “Medicine of Kings”.

Reishi mushrooms have been traditionally recommended by Chinese and Japanese herbalists for insomnia due to their “sleep-promoting factor”.(1) Long-term use causes a significant promotion of slow wave sleep. Reishi mushrooms are recommende in China for a number of psychiatric and neurological afflictions, including cases involving the musclesanorexia, and debility following lengthy illnesses.(3)  In Japan, the dried “mycelium” of Reishi the root-like body that produces mushrooms has been found to be highly effective in the treatment of neuroses caused by “environmental stress”.(1)  In addition, in an eight-month study of Alzheimer’s disease, patients taking a Reishi mycelium    product demonstrated significant improvement.

Reishi`Mushroom`Pic`--`9.11.15

In China, Reishi is used for its muscle relaxing and analgesic (pain-inhibiting) effects. In one study,  Reishi alleviated anxiety in 18 of 20 patients after four months’ use. It was concluded that the            mushroom has an essentially “calmative function”, but is neither a narcotic nor a hypnotic.

For centuries, Reishi has been known as a cardiotonic herb. It was provided routinely to those with a “knotted and tight chest” symptoms consistent with both stress and/or coronary artery disease-related angina. Researchers in China found that Reishi improved the blood flow and lowered oxygen consumption in the heart muscle.(3) Similar results were also found by`Japanese scientists.(1,4 ) They found that Reishi contains ganoderic acids (which belong to a  group of natural substances called “triterpenes”) which lower high blood pressurelower cholesterol, and inhibit platelet aggregation (the clumping together of blood cells), which can lead to heart attacks and other circulation problems.

As the “Medicine of Kings”, Reishi is widely used for different purposes. It is used for symptomatic relief of arthritis and of menopausal anxiety. It is also used in treating allergic asthma, hypertensionhypothyroidismbronchitisinsomniageneral anxiety and stress, and  cardiovascular problems. Reishi also is often the main ingredient in herbal formulas for immune dysfunction syndromes, such as Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.

Ganoderma is a adaptogen that works directly on every cell in the human body. It also contains Garcinia Cambogia which prevents fat storage, and control appetite.Ganoderma can be used as a supplement during chemotherapy or radiotherapy to reduce side-effects such as fatigue, loss of appetite, hair loss, bone marrow suppression and risk of  infection. It can also reduce the toxic and side effects and mitigate the pains during chemotherapy and radiotherapy, in particular to cancer patients at terminal stages for prolonging their lives and improving their living quality.

The right amount of coffee will help maintain a good health.

 1. Coffee is the source of antioxidants in diet

While fruits and veggies are still the richest sources of antioxidants, it turns out that for Americans, coffee is the main basis of antioxidant consumption (according to the Institute of Coffee Studies at Vanderbilt University). Black tea and bananas came in second and third place, respectively. Surprisingly, both caffeinated and decaffeinated coffee provide similar amounts of antioxidants.

2. Coffee increases your metabolism

Studies also show that coffee is very beneficial in terms of weight loss. It is a common misconception that coffee is an appetite suppressant, however, your morning cup can significantly speed up metabolism by about 10 percent.

3. Coffee can improve short-term memory

According to studies published in The Journal of the American Medical Association, caffeine is a cognitive stimulant that actually boosts brain functioning. Furthermore, coffee reduces levels of beta amyloid, a protein in the brain that is responsible for Alzheimer’s disease.

 4. Coffee is actually good for your teeth

We all know that one of the biggest cons of drinking coffee is a stained smile, but  the beverage can also have a positive effect on teeth. According to a 2009 article published in the Wall Street Journal, people who drink coffee are less likely to have cavities. Roasted coffee beans have antibacterial effects against microorganisms like Streptococcus, which play a hand in causing tooth decay.

 5. Coffee can help prevent/stop headaches

Have you ever wondered why caffeine is one of the main ingredients in migraine medication like Excedrin Migraine? WebMD explains that blood vessels increase in size during a migraine– caffeine works to decrease the size of blood vessels before they can affect nerves in the brain. So, drinking coffee in the early stages of a headache can help minimize the severity later on.

Right amount of Coffee with Ganoderma in daily diets helps to protect the body system, intergrating health with every sip.

The Best Diet – 3 Key Features Your Diet Must Have For Weight Loss Success

So you’ve already made the resolution that THIS is the year you’re going to lose weight and get in the best shape of your life. You’re not going to settle for second best – you’re going to achieve that dream body you’ve always wanted.

Great news – this is actually the best time to make that commitment. Why? Because you can take advantage of the powerful momentum and energy ‘Swim-suit Season’ brings to achieve your weight loss dreams.

But there’s nothing worse than committing to lose weight, only to get lost among the 5 gazillion diets out there. It can get confusing – you may end up wasting a lot of money and effort. You may end up wondering which diet is really the BEST diet for you.

You may even end up feeling so frustrated that you give up on your dream of becoming slim and healthy. But it doesn’t have to be that way.

In order to have rapid weight loss success, you have to find the best diet for you (a.k.a. the diet that will speed you towards your dream body at lightning pace). There are millions of diets – but only a few that are best for you and your lifestyle.

The best diet for you will have the 3 key features listed below. Choose your diet with these 3 key features in mind and you’re already halfway to your weight loss dreams.

#1 Proven Success Rate

Are there before and after pictures of people who have lost weight with that particular diet? Are there customer testimonials? Have there been independent studies done on the diet’s success rate?

Weight Loss Of Dawn Millionaire

The diet you chose doesn’t have to have all three of these but try to find at least some kind of proven success rate before choosing that particular program.

Weight Loss -- Before & After

Finding a diet with a proven success rate not only lets you know that the diet works but it also helps give you the confidence that the diet will work FOR YOU.

Confidence is one of the most underrated factors in a successful weight loss program. If you’ve tried and failed with diets before you especially need that extra boost of confidence to carry you through the more difficult times in the diet. By reminding yourself that this diet has been proven to work – you’ll be able to keep going and reach your weight loss goals.

A related feature that gets extra points is if the diet has been recommended by an expert or a physician. Again this boosts your confidence that the diet is safe and effective.

Weight Loss -- Before & After -- 1.08.13

#2 Affordable

Losing weight should not cost you thousands of dollars (unless we’re talking about surgery here and that’s an entirely different article). The best diet will be affordable for the average person.

If the diet costs too much, be very suspicious and look elsewhere. There are too many shady diets out there and as a consumer, it pays to be cautious.

I’ll give you an example of what I mean:

A close friend of mine went to a well-known weight loss clinic in our area. You know them – they regularly use famous entertainers and celebrities. She was told she had to pay the yearly fees up front (around $1000 NOT including food). They also told her she had to buy their food in bulk (like $500 for a year’s worth of chocolate).

When the chocolate gave her heart palpitations and she had to take it back, they told her it was non-refundable. She was out the money for the chocolate. Plus, she feels she can’t leave the program because she’s paid the yearly fees (which, you guessed it, are also non-refundable).

She unfortunately made the mistake of ignoring her instincts and paying way too much money for a diet program. If you notice you’re being asked for hefty fees right out of the gate, warning lights should be flashing in your mind.

Money Symbol-Hand Holding $100 Bills

Now on the other hand, the best diet WILL cost you something. It actually is better if you put some cash on the table for your diet program. Why? Because when we invest in something we’re more likely to stick with it. When we invest in something we are more likely to follow through and get the results we want.

For example another friend did a liver detox several months ago. I’m not really into liver detoxing but she read an article and figured she’d try it.

This detox kit cost her a whopping $50 and when she opened the instructions she told me she had to give up junk food for two weeks. In any other universe I would have laughed and simply forgotten about detoxing my liver. But because she had shelled out $50, she was invested – she decided that she hopefully wouldn’t starve from lack of junk food over two weeks and suffered through it.

If I’d gotten the detox kit for free there’s no way I would have followed those instructions. But because she was invested, she followed through and now has a healthier liver thanking her for it.

So when searching for the best diet, putting out some money on yourself and your dreams of a better body is actually a healthy thing. Just keep in mind that you shouldn’t have to spend thousands of dollars on it.

#3 Compatible with Your Tastes and Lifestyle

This is THE most crucial step however it’s the one where most people go wrong. When choosing a diet, they simply pick one and go, without considering if it is compatible with their tastes and lifestyle.

For example, if you hate feeling deprived or empty you might want to choose a program that lets you eat many times during the day so you don’t feel hungry. If you get bored easily you want a diet program that gives you tremendous variety and flexibility. If you don’t do a lot of cooking or food preparation, you’ll want to look at a program where the food is pre-made for you.

Diets are like cars – there are hundreds of different models out there, each with their own unique features. And they can get you where you want to go. But your personality might gel better with certain features than others.

Dieting is hard enough. Don’t make it harder on yourself by choosing a diet not compatible with who you are. Setting yourself up for success will also guarantee that you’ll stick it out until you reach your goal.

Here’s an `ALL-NATURAL’ Detox I suggest you use from a company with a solid 26+ year track record. It is the`Ultra Body Cleanse.

Ardyss Ultra Cleanse Pack - Ardyss For Life Marketing Pic By Victoria - 6.26.15

This is a thorough detoxification program. It consists of 2 steps, an Internal cleanse and a general detoxifier. It will clean the liver, kidney, lungs and intestine. It contains senna leaves and frangula bark. Once combined they sweep toxins and energize probiotics and enzymes. It cleanses the digestive system, including the elimination tract.

And one other thing, the best diet will be one that you can get excited about. Choose a diet that you enjoy, that you believe in, that may actually be – gulp – fun.

Emotional excitement will fade in time, yes. But it can give you enough of an emotional push to get you over the initial hump. By that time your first few pounds will have come off and will serve as your continuing motivation.

So those are 3 key considerations when looking for the best diet. Keep them in mind and you will progress in leaps and bounds towards your dream body. Remember, planning now may seem boring – but it’s the key to your future weight loss success.

And of` course I have to suggest one that worked very well for me that I hope will work for you. It does encompass all 3 key features we haven discussed in this article — plus one more great feature. It is an `ALL-NATURAL’, time tested program!

Check it out and see for yourself @ http://TheWeightLossCafe4Ever.net

Delightful New Ways to Reduce Cholesterol Without Drugs

Those of us with unfavorable cholesterol scores are constantly bombarded with the importance of controlling LDL-HDL levels. Unfortunately, many of the drugs prescribed for cholesterol reduction can have serious side effects such as fatigue, muscle cramps, brain fog, etc. Trying a natural adjustment to your diet may be a better and less risky way to tame the cholesterol beast.

With all the news and warnings about the dangers of high cholesterol, many people view cholesterol as a “bad” substance that should be eliminated completely from our lives. In truth, cholesterol serves some important functions in the body. In order to understand how cholesterol affects the body, one must first understand what cholesterol is.

Cholesterol is a waxy substance that is attached to the fats in our bloodstream and is present in all of the cells of the body. Cholesterol comes from food that we eat, as well as being manufactured directly by the liver. Cholesterol is an important regulator in the bloodstream, as it helps to regulate the formation of many cells as well as hormones. However, to have too high or too low of a cholesterol count in the blood can be a very dangerous factor, often leading to a heart attack or a stroke. Although cholesterol is prevalent in the blood stream, it cannot dissipate in the blood. The cholesterol maneuvers throughout the body attached to lipids (fats).

Over time, cholesterol builds up on the artery walls and this condition is known as atherosclerosis. Atherosclerosis was thought to be an affliction of the elderly until the 1950′s when American pathologists were sent to Korea by the Pentagon to study the bodies of servicemen who died during the conflict. They autopsied around 2000 soldiers and found that approximately 75% had waxy, yellow deposits on the walls of their arteries; a shocking statistic considering the average age of the soldiers was 21. Their findings astonished the scientific community as it highlighted the onset of heart disease in the very young.

There are two main types of cholesterol. The first type is called LDL cholesterol, and the other is HDL cholesterol. LDL cholesterol, otherwise known as low-density lipoprotein, is considered the “dangerous” cholesterol. LDL cholesterol can build up on the artery walls. Over time this plaque build-up blocks blood flow, reducing circulation and causing stress and damage to the heart. This raises blood pressure, and eventually leads to heart disease or a heart attack. Individuals that have higher levels of LDL run a much higher risk of having heart disease. Although LDL is affected by genetics, there are several precautions that individuals can take towards keeping safe LDL levels.

The other form of cholesterol is HDL, or high-density lipoprotein. HDL is considered the “good” cholesterol. HDL cholesterol is important for the body to have as this type of cholesterol helps filter out LDL cholesterol from the lining of the arteries, as well as transporting fat in the bloodstream (triglycerides) to the liver so that it can be excreted from the body. It is believed that even having high levels of HDL is safe, as it can help protect one’s heart from a heart attack or stroke. Low counts of HDL could potentially lead to a heart attack and stroke, however this is rare for people eating a western-style diet, which is typically high in both forms of cholesterol.

Most of the cholesterol in our bodies comes from the foods we eat. Foods high in fats, particularly saturated and trans fats, contribute to high levels of LDL cholesterol. Meat and dairy products are the main sources of LDL cholesterol, while leafy vegetables, fruits, and nuts are more nutritious alternatives that have higher levels of HDL cholesterol. While genetics does play a role in cholesterol levels, a change in diet is the most effective way to lower dangerous cholesterol levels, and reduce your risk of heart disease and associated health problems.

Certain natural substances found in Ardyss, including plant sterols, fish oils, and policosanol have been shown in numerous clinical studies to be highly effective in promoting healthy cholesterol levels, particularly when combined with a healthy diet and exercise. If you are concerned about your cholesterol levels, now is the time to make a change, and Vasacor can help.

There are numerous medications on the market today, but for many individuals it is possible to lower cholesterol naturally rather than with drugs. Currently more than 60% of adults over the age of 45 suffer some form of heart or blood related issues, including high cholesterol. To ensure this does not lead to a shorter life or a poorer quality of life, the following steps can be taken:

Regular Exercise

The use of regular exercise to lower cholesterol naturally has been supported for decades as an effective alternative to pharmaceuticals. Something as simple as walking 30 minutes a night can significantly reduce cholesterol levels in the adult body while 30 minutes of full aerobic exercise 3-4 times a week is ideal for the optimum reduction in LDL and HDL levels.

Low Fat Diet

In conjunction with regular exercise, a low fat diet that contains less than 30% fat with as close to zero saturated fats as possible can help lower cholesterol naturally. Reading labels to ensure you receive the most accurate information as well is recommended as many labels are intentionally misleading. Anything pre-packaged, frozen foods, non-skim dairy products, and red meats, along with any high fat snacks or junk foods are all considered bad additions to a diet designed to reduce cholesterol.

Adding the Right Foods

Foods that are high in fiber, contain lots of garlic, fish oil, or soy, or that are rich in whole grains are considered highly effective in both stopping the effects of high cholesterol and reducing your existing levels. Fresh fruits and vegetables, beans, and whole grains are all good sources of these foods and should be integrated into a lower cholesterol diet as much as possible.

Ardyss Fiber Balance -- 5.11.13What foods specifically lower cholesterol?  So glad you asked!

Foods that Lower LDL Cholesterol

There are a number of foods which are believed to significantly lower LDL cholesterol. Fiber-rich foods are said to be particularly beneficial and will not only lower ‘bad’ cholesterol, but also help the bowel to function properly, lowering the risk of colon and bowel cancer. There are many other foods that can help the body fight back against these dangerous deposits.

Fiber-rich foods, particularly oat bran, barley and wheat bran. They can be eaten as a cereal for breakfast and sprinkled onto other foods. Pearl barley can be added to soups. Apples and pears also have considerable amounts of soluble fiber and should be enjoyed on a daily basis.

Beans and pulses are high in fiber and low-fat. They also contain lecithin, a nutrient that lowers cholesterol. Try to incorporate kidney, fava, borlotti and other dried whole-foods into your diet; there are many different types of lentils and pulses that are delicious in soups and stews.

Avocado contains prolific amounts of monounsaturated fat, which helps to reduce LDL cholesterol and has many other health benefits including anti-cancer properties.

Raw carrots are rich in a fiber called pectin that is renowned for minimizing cholesterol. There are a number of fruits that also contain pectin, including; apples, citrus fruits, strawberries, raspberries and other red or black berries.

Shitake mushrooms are widely used by the Japanese and include a compound called lentinan, which not only lowers cholesterol, but is also thought to be anti-cancerous and may help to boost the immune system.

Garlic is a super food and is well known for its blood-thinning properties. It also contains a substance allicin which is thought to prevent the body retaining LDL cholesterol and research has shown that the equivalent of one clove per day can lessen ‘bad’ cholesterol by 10-15% in the majority of people.

Root ginger has been used in Chinese medicine for centuries and has numerous health benefits. It can be added to stir-fry’s (using healthy sesame oil) and other vegetable dishes.

Nuts are naturally high in omega-3 fatty acids and are known to significantly reduce blood cholesterol; walnuts, pecans, hazelnuts and almonds are especially beneficial.

Sesame seeds are rich in phytosterols. These compounds are said to substantially lessen LDL cholesterol. Other foods containing phytosterols include; celery, lettuce, asparagus, spinach, tomatoes, ginger, squash and strawberries.

Safflower, canola, soybean, and olive oil are monounsaturated and are an excellent source of omega-3 fatty acids. Research indicates that they can decrease atherosclerotic plaque by up to 15% when eaten regularly.

Salmon, tuna, sardines and mackerel contain considerable amounts of omega-3 fatty acids, which have many health benefits and are essential for brain and eye function.

Prunes are a wonderful source of antioxidants and fiber, which is known to reduce LDL cholesterol.

Alfalfa sprouts contain a substance called saponin, which is thought to obstruct and inhibit the formation of atherosclerotic plaque in the arteries.

If you have high cholesterol or a family tendency towards atherosclerosis it is best to avoid processed and prepared foods, fried food, food containing animal fats or animal products, high-fat dairy products and food containing either saturated fat or trans fats. Research has revealed the key to lowering LDL cholesterol is a healthy, balanced diet that incorporates plenty of soluble fiber and at least five portions of fruit or vegetables a day. This combined with regular cardiovascular exercise should help keep the heart healthy and provide numerous other health benefits as well.

Supplements

Supplements can also be added to help lower cholesterol naturally. To boost fiber and fatty acid intake, supplements such as Omega-3 in flax seed oil or fish oil along with garlic extracts have been shown to significantly lower cholesterol naturally and without any side effects. Found over the counter in any drug store or natural health store, these supplements are easy to take or mix in with food for significant benefits to a low cholesterol diet.

May I suggest some supplemental all-natural products which help lower cholesterol – Omega 369 and Fiber Balance.

Omega 369 is an ideal formula of Omega-3, Omega-6 and Omega-9 essential fatty acids (EFAs), the “good fats” that help support brain and heart, and maintain good health; EFAs contribute to processing of the cell membranes which help your cardiovascular system in balance.

Acid Vs Alkaline Diet — Creating A Healthier ‘Disease-Free’ Body & Lifestyle

Red LeVive

Acid Vs Alkaline Diet                                                — Creating A Healthier ‘Disease-Free’ Body & Lifestyle

In this article, I will answer the question of “acid vs. alkaline diet; which is the best?”

Well, ok, it’s quite obvious from where I’m sitting; I mean who wants to say their body is mostly acid? But, what are the benefits of having an alkaline diet, over an acid diet?  Well, let’s earnestly and sincerely talk about it. This article will offer real solutions as well as many invaluable suggestions – all pointing you towards a healthier lifestyle! Our body’s internal system needs a pH of just above 7.0; Our immunologic, enzymatic and repair mechanisms all function at their best in this alkaline range. If our body becomes over acidic, i.e. under a pH of 7, you may start to experience a combination of these symptoms:

Low Energy, Fatigue, Nasal Congestion, Hives, Muscle Pain, Weak Nails, Dry Skin, Dry Hair, Frequent Colds, Flu and Infection, Headaches

If you have these symptoms and eat foods which create acid in the body, you may need to balance it with an alkaline diet.

We do strongly suggest you that you explore all natural avenues to achieve a healthy ph level. Below is a website  we suggest you visit and read about these products and also read the many testimonies given by a medical doctor and others who have been challenged with cancer, diabetes, and much, much more!

                                                 http://www.TheCompleteFundraiser.com

What foods cause acid in the body?

There is a whole list of foods that cause the body to be over-acidic: dairy and dairy substitutes, animal meat, most grains, chickpeas, condiments, aspartame, prunes, chocolate, peanuts, alcohol and quite a few other types of foods. To balance your pH, the remedy is simple and logical; eat more alkaline causing foods.  To name but a few of these foods, there is; watermelon, lime, mango, most vegetables, vegetable juices, almonds, sprouts, avocados and green tea. When you’re body becomes more alkaline, the changes that will take place are truly amazing! It will seem magical, but it’s all perfectly normal. You will feel how we all have the right to feel, we just don’t know it.

Benefits Include:

Rapid Weight Loss     —     Increased Energy   —     The Need For Less Sleep —    Improved Skin And Hair Condition

Better Mental Attitude — Are these benefits worth pursuing? I think so, and you are crazy if you don’t agree with me! Fortunately, it is not hard to slowly alkalise your body. Take it one day at a time, add more and more green food to your diet, reduce the number of cups of coffee you have every day and you’ll soon reap the benefits.

The main focus of this article is really not to help you lose weight. Trying out the latest diet is practically an American pastime. The more health benefits the diet supposedly provides, the better. We don’t just want to lose weight; we want to cure arthritisdiabetes, and cancer, and slow the aging process, too.

Some web sites touting the alkaline diet claim it does all these things and more. In an article about an Alkaline Diet by Sonya Collins of WebMD Feature, and reviewed by Louise Chang, MD, some excerpts from that article are as follows: First, lets again review some background information. Our pH is the measure of exactly how acidic or alkaline we are. A pH of 0 is completely acidic, and a pH of 14 completely alkaline. A pH of 7 is neutral.

You don’t just have one pH level. For example, the stomach has a pH ranging from 1.35-3.5. It must be acidic to aid in digestion. However, blood must always be slightly alkaline, with a pH of 7.35 to 7.45.

The theory of the alkaline diet is that eating certain foods can help maintain the body’s ideal pH balance to improve overall health. But the body maintains its pH balance regardless of diet. For instance, your diet may affect the pH level of your urine. But what you eat does not determine your blood’s pH level.

What’s in the Alkaline Diet

The alkaline diet is mostly vegetarian. In addition to fresh vegetables and some fresh fruits, alkaline-promoting foods include soy products and some nuts, grains, and legumes. Web sites promoting the alkaline diet discourage eating acid-promoting foods, which include meat, fish, poultry, dairy products, processed foods, white sugar, white flour, and caffeine. The alkaline diet is basically healthy, says Marjorie Nolan, RD, an American Dietetic Association spokeswoman.  ”It’s a diet of fresh fruits and vegetables, plenty of water, avoiding processed foods, coffee, and alcohol, which are all recommendations for a generally healthy diet anyway,” Nolan says. “But our body regulates our pH between 7.35 and 7.45 no matter how we eat.”

Potential Benefits

Diets that include a lot of animal protein can lower urine pH and raise the risk for kidney stones. So eating a diet rich in vegetables, as with an alkaline diet, can raise urine pH and lower the risk for kidney stones, says John Asplin, MD, a kidney specialist who is a fellow of the American Society of Nephrology. Researchers have speculated that an alkaline diet might slow bone loss and muscle waste, increase growth hormone, make certain chronic diseases less likely, and ease low back pain. However, that hasn’t been proven. There is also no concrete evidence that an alkaline or vegetarian diet can prevent cancer.

Again, we make no medical claims, but we do refer to documented, verified testimonies as listed on Amazon — reflect that all natural remedies DO WORK.  Below is a website  we suggest you visit and read about these products and also read the many testimonies given by a medical doctor and others who have been challenged with cancer, diabetes, and much, much more!

          http://www.TheCompleteFundraiser.com

Some studies have shown that vegetarians have lower rates of cancer, particularly colon cancer, according to the American Cancer Society. But vegetarians often have other healthy habits, such as exercise and abstaining from drinking and smoking, so it is difficult to determine the effects of diet alone. “Clinical studies have proved without a doubt that people who eat more fresh fruits and vegetables and hydrate properly do have lower rates of cancer and other diseases,” Nolan tells WebMD, “but it probably has nothing to do with blood pH.”

Now let’s discuss ‘the rest of the story’!

Potential Risks

Because there is no evidence that diet can significantly change blood pH, a highly irregular blood pH is a sign of a larger problem — perhaps kidney failure — not a dietary issue. People with kidney disease or medical issues that require monitoring by a doctor, such as severe diabetes, should not attempt this diet without medical supervision.  ”If someone’s blood sugar is not being monitored properly — especially if they’re on insulin if they’re type 1 or they’re a severe type 2 diabetic — you’re potentially running the risk of your blood sugar dropping too low after a meal if you don’t know what you’re doing,” Nolan says.

It all comes down to balance, Asplin says. The alkaline diet could potentially over-restrict protein and calcium.  “Vegetarians can be completely healthy in their diets as long as they make sure to get adequate supplies of essential components to a diet. But it is also true that many Americans over-consume protein and get much more than they actually need,” Asplin says.

The Red Flags Of Diet Fraud

Several web sites that appear at the top of “alkaline diet” Internet search results ask users to subscribe with their email address or buy diet products from the site. These are red flags that the promoter of the diet may only be interested in selling something, experts say. Be wary of diet web sites that require a monthly fee for recipes or information. There are numerous complaints online that these subscriptions are easy to start but virtually impossible to stop. William Mundell, MD, vice chair of the department of general internal medicine at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., also advises people to beware of any diets that:

  • Want you to buy only their product. You should be able to get the foods for any healthy diet on your own at the supermarket.
  • Focus on a narrow spectrum of foods, whether it’s to eliminate all fat, all carbohydrates, or all proteins, or just eat grapefruit.
  • Claim that science has kept something a secret or that a single person has discovered something that nobody else knows about.

I do not offer you a website with a monthly fee for receipes – but I DO again offer you information and  time tested testimonials about products that do help you system become AND Stay Alkaline.

As the name implies, antioxidants are substances that are capable of counteracting the damaging, but normal, effects of the physiological process of oxidation in animal tissue.    Antioxidants are nutrients (vitamins and minerals) as well as enzymes (proteins in your body that assist in chemical reactions). They are believed to play a role in preventing the      development of such chronic diseases as cancer, heart disease, stroke, Alzheimer’s disease, Rheumatoid arthritis, and cataracts.

Antioxidants block the process of oxidation by neutralizing free radicals. In doing so, the              antioxidants themselves become oxidized. That is why there is a constant need to replenish our       antioxidant resources.

Antioxidants also help neutralize free radicals which cause cell damage, which ultimately can lead to Blueberry Fruit In Hallock, OR -- 7.18.13diseases of the heart and        cancer.  It seems everywhere you go its          blueberry this and blueberry that.  You have your choice of wild blueberries, blueberry juice, blueberry-pomegranate juice, blueberry-cranberry juice and so on and so on.

Now, don’t misunderstand me.  I absolutely love blueberries.  But, in our zeal to           embrace the latest antioxidant food craze (blueberries, cranberries, pomegranates) we’re ignoring some very high-antioxidant facts and foods that are probably sitting ignored in our cupboards.

How Antioxidants work can be classified in one of two ways:

·         Chain-breaking – When a free radical releases or steals an electron, a second radical is formed. This molecule then turns around and does the same thing to a third molecule,          continuing to generate more unstable products. The process continues until termination       occurs — either the radical is stabilized by a chain-breaking antioxidant such as beta-carotene and vitamins C and E, or it simply decays into a harmless product.

·         Preventive – Antioxidant enzymes like superoxide dismutase, catalase and glutathione peroxidase prevent oxidation by reducing the rate of chain initiation. That is, by scavenging initiating radicals, such antioxidants can thwart an oxidation chain from ever setting in           motion. They can also prevent oxidation by stabilizing transition metal radicals such as          copper and iron.

The effectiveness of any given antioxidant in the body depends on which free radical is involved, how and where it is generated, and where the target of damage is. Thus, while in one particular system an antioxidant may protect against free radicals, in other systems it could have no effect at all. Or, in certain circumstances, an antioxidant may even act as a “pro-oxidant” that generates toxic oxygen species.

There are many common foods high in antioxidants and you should not just restrict yourself to one particular food source.  Why?  Well, have you ever heard the expression, “eat your colors?”   That refers to the fact that foods are in different color “families” containing different types of antioxidants which have different benefits.

Eat All Of Your Colors -- Oranges, Apples, Berries -- Antioxidants -- 7.17.13

The good news is that you can eat healthy foods high in antioxidants (by eating them raw, cooking them, or juicing them yourself) without having to pay a high price for the “flavor of the month” Eat All Of Your Colors -- Oranges, Apples, Berries -- Antioxidants -- 7.17.13antioxidant juices being peddled in the supermarkets.

So, give your blueberries some company at the dinner table.  Invite some beans, spinach, potatoes and artichoke hearts and enjoy your antioxidants!

Let’s now further discuss the true ‘rainbow of color’ in detail and the diverse array of foods you can eat to receive antioxidant nutrients.

Antioxidant Nutrients

Antioxidants from our diet appear to be of great importance in controlling damage by free radicals. Each nutrient is unique in terms of its structure and antioxidant function.

Vitamin E is actually a generic term that refers to all entities (eight found so far) that exhibit biological activity of the isomer tocopherol (an isomer is one of two or more molecules that have the same chemical formula but different atomic arrangements). Alpha-tocopherol, the most widely available isomer, has the highest biopotency, or strongest effect in the body.      Because it is fat-soluble (and can only dissolve in fats), alpha-tocopherol is in a unique         position to safeguard cell membranes — largely composed of fatty acids — from damage by free radicals. Alpha-tocopherol also protects the fats in low-density lipoproteins (LDLs, or the “bad” cholesterol) from oxidation.

A 1997 study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association found that 60 mg of Walnuts, Peanuts, Almonds - From Dept Of Ag -- 7.17.13Vitamin E a day strengthened the        immune system in a group of healthy patients at least 65 years old, and 200 mg       generated a four-to-six fold improvement after four months. However, 800 mg of vitamin E resulted in worse immunity than receiving no vitamin E at all.

  • Vitamin E is found in vegetable oils, walnuts, peanuts, almonds, seeds, olives, avocado, wheat germ, liver, and leafy green vegetables.

Vitamin C, also known as ascorbic acid, is a water-soluble vitamin. As such, it scavenges free radicals that are in an aqueous (watery) environment, such as inside your cells. Vitamin C works synergistically with vitamin E to quench free radicals. Vitamin C also regenerates the reduced (stable) form of vitamin E.

  • For good sources of vitamin C, look to citrus fruits (like oranges and grapefruit), broccoli, leafy green vegetables, tomatoes, peppers, potatoes, cantaloupe, and strawberries.

Oranges & Orange Juice -- Vitamin C -- 7.17.13

Beta-carotene, also a water-soluble vitamin, is the most widely studied of the 600 carotenoids identified to date. It is thought to be the best quencher of singlet oxygen (an energized but uncharged form of oxygen that is toxic to cells). Beta-carotene is also especially excellent at scavenging free radicals in low oxygen concentration. Beta Carotene -- Red & Green Peppers -- 7.17.13

  • Common sources of beta-carotene include cantaloupe, mangoes, papaya, pumpkin, peppers, spinach, kale, squash, sweet potatoes, and apricots.

Selenium is a trace element. It is a mineral that we need to consume in only very small quantities, but without which we could not survive. It forms the active site of several antioxidant enzymes including glutathione peroxidase. Beef & Pork -- Selenium -- 7.17.13

  • You can find selenium in seafood, beef, pork, chicken, Brazil nuts, brown rice, and whole wheat bread.

Similar to selenium, the minerals manganese and zinc are trace elements that form an essential part of various antioxidant enzymes.

Zinc is considered to be an essential mineral and occurs naturally in certain foods, the National Institutes of Health report. Oysters have more zinc content than any other food source. Six medium servings of oysters contain 76 milligrams of zinc, more than 500 percent of the daily value, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Oysters -- Zinc -- 7.17.13

Nearly all green vegetables have a chlorophyll molecule that contains magnesium, the NIH reports. Spinach and Swiss chard are the two leafy vegetables with the highest magnesium content, the World’s Healthiest Foods website calculates. Other good sources of magnesium include cooked halibut, dry-roasted almonds and cashews, cooked soybeans, shredded wheat cereal, fortified oatmeal, baked potato and peanut butter. Each has 50 milligrams or more of magnesium, which is at least 15 percent of the daily value.

Raspberries and blackberries stand out as the top berry sources of both magnesium and zinc. One cup of fresh raspberries contains 27 milligrams of magnesium and 0.52 milligrams of zinc. One cup Berries -- Fruit Assortment -- Zinc & Magnese -- 7.17.13of fresh blackberries has 29 milligrams of magnesium and 0.76 milligrams of zinc. Fresh raspberries and blackberries can be eaten plain as a healthy side dish or stirred into a bowl of hot cereal. Fresh berries are also a healthy topping for waffles or pancakes.

Many dried fruits are a good source of both magnesium and zinc. One cup of dried   apricots contains 28 milligrams of magnesium and 0.35 milligrams of zinc. One cup of prunes has 59 milligrams of magnesium and 0.70 milligrams of zinc. A 1 cup serving of dried dates contains 63 milligrams of magnesium and 0.43 milligrams of zinc. Add dried fruits to your favorite trail mix or bowl of cold cereal.

Of course, in addition to eating plenty of fruits and vegetables, getting regular exercise and abstaining from tobacco use are very critical to a healthy lifestyle.

Over the last several years, the Board has been updating and expanding the system for determining the RDA and UL values, which are now collectively referred to as the Dietary Reference Intakes, or DRIs. The following recommendations were made for consumption of antioxidants in the 2000 report, “Dietary Reference Intakes for Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Selenium, and Carotenoids”:

Antioxidant

RDA (adults)

Upper Level (adults)

Comment

Vitamin E

15 mg

1,070 mg natural vitamin E

785 mg synthetic vitamin E

Higher amounts impair blood clotting, increasing likelihood of hemorrhage.

Vitamin C

Women: 75 mg
Men: 90 mg

2,000 mg

Higher amounts could lead to diarrhea and other GI disturbances. Extremely high levels may lead to cancer, atherosclerosis, and kidney stones.

Beta-carotene

None

None

Chronic high doses turn your skin yellow-orange, but it is not toxic. However, research indicates it is unwise to consume doses of beta-carotene beyond what is in a multivitamin and your regular diet.

Selenium

55 micrograms

400 micrograms

Higher amounts could cause hair loss, skin rashes, fatigue, GI disturbances, and nervous system abnormalities.

Antioxidant Enzymes

For those analytical and biological minded readers, let us look at the process of producing antioxidant enzymes.  The antioxidant enzymes superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT) and glutathione peroxidase (GPx) serve as your primary line of defense in destroying free radicals.

SOD first reduces (adds an electron to) the radical superoxide (O2-) to form hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and oxygen (O2).

2O2- + 2H — SOD–>  H2O2 + O2

Catalase and GPx then work simultaneously with the protein glutathione to reduce hydrogen peroxide and ultimately produce water (H2O).

2H2O2  –CAT–>  H2O + O2

H2O2 + 2glutathione   –GPx–>  oxidized glutathione + 2H2O

(The oxidized glutathione is then reduced by another antioxidant enzyme — glutathione reductase.)

Together, they repair oxidized DNA, degrade oxidized protein, and destroy oxidized lipids (fat-like substances that are a constituent of cell membranes). Various other enzymes act as a secondary antioxidant defense mechanism to protect you from further damage.

Other Antioxidants

In addition to enzymes, vitamins, and minerals, there appear to be many other nutrients and compounds that have antioxidant properties. Among them is coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10, or ubiquinone), which is essential to energy production and can also protect the body from destructive free radicals. Also, uric acid, a product of DNA metabolism, has become increasingly recognized as an important antioxidant. Additionally, substances in plants called phytochemicals are being investigated for their antioxidant activity and health-promoting potential.

In Summary

Antioxidants are best taken in combination, since single antioxidants, such as vitamin E, need other vitamins in order to work as an effective antioxidant. Food and natural supplements may therefore provide the most bio-available source of antioxidants. Natural products from the rain forests of the world are some of the best sources of natural antioxidants ever found. Fruits like the acai berry are amazing the health world because of the wide range and high number of antioxidants they contain, making them a perfect source of antioxidants. It’s no wonder that the acai berry has been dubbed one of the top 10 “superfoods” in the world.

The juices are fortified with botanical extracts that help maintain healthy cellular and physical functions. The New England Journal of Medicine reports that 9 out 10 people die from dietary deficiencies. When the body is completely clean, the result is the protective organs functioning properly helping to eliminate toxins that aren’t healthy.

Delightful Ways to Reduce Cholesterol Without Drugs

What foods specifically lower cholesterol?
